DÜSSELDORF
This European metropolis is home to a renowned university, fabulous museums and is a German fashion capital. Located near the ship, a split-level riverside promenade offers a convenient place to begin absorbing the spirit of this city. Inland are the cobblestone streets and alleys of Old Town lined with bars, restaurants and elegant townhomes.

RÜDESHEIM
Located in the heart of Rhine Valley, Rüdesheim has been a magnet for romantics ever since the early 19th century. Its rolling hillsides of vineyards, historical monuments and winding alleyways are a treat. Visit the Niederwald monument, a memorial to the founding of the German Empire in 1871, and enjoy a breathtaking view of the Rhine Valley.

MAINZ
The Gutenberg Museum in Mainz documents Johannes Gutenberg’s life and work as the inventor of the printing press. The reconstructed print room and working printing press bring the Middle Ages back to life. Marvel at the world-famous 42-line Bibles on exhibit at the museum.

MILTENBERG
A quaint Bavarian village, Miltenberg began as a Roman fort on the Main. The Gothic grandeur of its Merchant Hall as well as its many Medieval and Renaissance houses reflect its affluence and cultural wealth. Enticing outdoor cafés, half-timbered houses and a 400-year-old fountain are among the city’s memorable sights.

KARLSTAD (ROTHENBURG)
Germany’s “Romantic Road” leads to charming villages, towns and cities between the Main River and the Alps. Once a trade route during the Middle Ages, it still maintains its Medieval splendor with Gothic cathedrals and fairytale castles.

BAMBERG
An architectural gem boasting Renaissance palaces, Baroque houses and a breathtaking cathedral, Bamberg is one of Germany’s most beautiful cities. Browse the town hall, its façade decorated with lavish frescoes. Or ramble through the city’s serpentine streets as they wind past charming gabled houses and 18th-century mansions.

NUREMBERG
Nuremberg is an archetypal German Medieval city. The ancient walled Old Town is a delight to explore on foot, with its irregular street pattern on both banks of the Pegnitz River. You’ll encounter fascinating old fortifications and well-preserved half-timbered houses built by the nobility.

MAIN-DANUBE CANAL
The Main-Danube Canal was completed in 1992. Today, this engineering wonder winds 106 miles through rural Bavaria. It includes 16 locks that rise to a height of 1,330 feet.

REGENSBURG
One of Germany’s unspoiled gems, the most striking view of the city is from its Medieval bridge. Wander through winding cobblestone streets to the historic market square. Many stop for refreshments at the “Wurstküche”— serving sausages and beer for more than 800 years!

LINZ
The Danube serves as a dividing line between the modern city of Linz and its traditional “soul.” Explore Old Town with its castles, churches and early buildings fanning out from the central Hauptplatz, Austria’s largest Medieval town square. Highlights include the Mozarthaus (Count Thun’s House), where Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart composed his famed Linz Symphony in 1783.

VIENNA
With more time in Vienna, you will be able to fully appreciate the magic of this wonderful city. And this year Vienna celebrates the 250th anniversary of the birth of Mozart. Music fills the air, so enjoy a concert or two. Spend time shopping along the fashionable Kärtnerstrasse, indulge in a Viennese coffee in one of the many famous cafés and explore the historic city center with its treasure trove of secular and sacred gems and grand palaces, culminating at the magnificent Gothic cathedral.
